Let’s talk about Diabetes

Posted on April 19, 2026April 19, 2026 by Liliane

Hello,

One of the reasons why I wanted to create this blog is to talk about my own journey as a diabetic. I found out I was diabetic maybe 25 years ago. I really don't remember, but it was a long time ago. I still remember walking to the doctor's office and he gave me my diagnoses. I was in shock, but not really. You see, diabetes does run in the family. However, I was in shock because I kept thinking why me? After all that I was going through, I needed to deal with another challenge. Well, I guess this was always how I rolled, just bring it on!

Anyway, let me tell you, it is scary and frustrating!  I absolutely do not like to be reminded that I am not doing things correct. How can I when the cost of leaving is so high!  Who can I afford buying heathy food these days? Who has time to cook healthy meal when you work full time? Etc…   I guess it takes commitment and hard work. This is what I did so far:

  1. Visited a nutritionist who reminded me about portion control (yes what we learned at school is actually important), lol
  2. Participated in my community Diabetes sessions
  3. Created my own garden to grow my own vegetable to save some money
  4. Starting canning
  5. I am also dealing with my depression by ready daily one of my affirmation cards
  6. Frequently visit Diabetes Canada for articles and recipes.

With all the stress of everything I dealt with my past, I am finally realizing that I need to do this, work on my self and I just put my foot down!   I will be sharing my journey of “redemption” about my diabetes, and I am here to help anyone who has questions, concerns or just need “Virtual” shoulder to cry on. I would love to hear about your journey and share ideas on how we can help each other. See ya!
